GST calculator

Add GST to a price, or take it out of an amount that already includes it. Free, and nothing you type leaves your device.

The amount is
GST rate
Buyer is in
Before GST
₹1,000.00
CGST 9%
₹90.00
SGST 9%
₹90.00
Total
₹1,180.00

How it works out

Adding GST. GST = amount × rate ÷ 100. Total = amount + GST. At 18%, ₹1,000 becomes ₹1,000 + ₹180 = ₹1,180.

Taking GST out. Amount before GST = total ÷ (1 + rate ÷ 100). GST = total − amount before GST. At 18%, ₹1,180 ÷ 1.18 = ₹1,000, so the GST is ₹180.

Splitting it. For a buyer in your state, CGST is half the GST and SGST is the rest. For a buyer in another state, all of it is IGST.

Rounding. Each step is rounded to the paisa, the same way StoreSathi rounds each line of a bill.

Worked examples

Add 18% to ₹1,000, same state
₹1,000.00 + CGST ₹90.00 + SGST ₹90.00 = ₹1,180.00
Take 18% out of ₹1,180, same state
₹1,000.00 + CGST ₹90.00 + SGST ₹90.00 = ₹1,180.00
Take 5% out of ₹499, same state
₹475.24 + CGST ₹11.88 + SGST ₹11.88 = ₹499.00
Add 12% to ₹2,500, other state
₹2,500.00 + IGST ₹300.00 = ₹2,800.00

Rates in these examples show the arithmetic only. They are not the rate for any particular item.

Questions

Which GST rate applies to my item? This calculator only does the arithmetic. The rate for an item depends on its HSN code and the rate notifications in force, which change from time to time. Check the rate with your CA or on the official GST websites before you bill.

What are CGST, SGST and IGST here? For a buyer in your own state the calculator shows the tax in two equal halves, CGST and SGST (UTGST in a union territory). For a buyer in another state it shows the whole tax as IGST. The total is the same either way.

Why is my answer a paisa different from another calculator? Amounts are rounded to the paisa at each step, the same way StoreSathi rounds each line of a bill: the GST is rounded first, CGST is half of it rounded, and SGST is the rest, so the two halves always add up to the GST.

Is what I type saved or sent anywhere? No. The calculator runs in your browser. Nothing you type leaves your phone or computer.

Does StoreSathi do this on every bill? Yes. You set the HSN code and GST rate on each item once, choose whether its price includes GST, and StoreSathi works out every line, the CGST and SGST or IGST, and the HSN summary on every bill.
